Eight measures, explained plainly

Computed from your recording with signal processing. Indicative, not a diagnosis: the report tells you what each number means for how you come across.

  • 01

    Pitch

Where your voice sits, and how it carries.

  • 02

    Melody

Intonation that keeps a room listening.

  • 03

    Pitch steadiness

Small wobbles that read as nerves or fatigue.

  • 04

    Loudness steadiness

    A level voice sounds composed.

  • 05

    Clarity

    Resonance against breathiness.

  • 06

    Pace

Syllables per second, rushed or measured.

  • 07

    Pauses

    Silence used well, or lost.

  • 08

    Recording quality

So you can trust the numbers.

What the report can and can’t tell you

  1. It measures acoustic patterns in a short recording. It does not determine your age, and it is not a medical assessment.
  2. Microphone, distance and background noise affect the numbers. Retest in the same conditions to compare.
  3. Voices vary widely between people of the same age: use the report to track your own progress, not to compare yourself with others.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is a voice age test?

Not very, in absolute terms. Research on listeners estimating age from voice alone finds errors of several years even in lab conditions. Use the report as an indicative snapshot, and to track your own progress over time.

What does the tool measure?

Eight acoustic properties of your recording: average pitch, melody (pitch variation), pitch steadiness (jitter), loudness steadiness (shimmer), clarity (harmonics-to-noise ratio), speaking rate, pauses and recording quality.

Is my recording uploaded?

No. The analysis runs entirely in your browser. Your recording is never transmitted, stored or shared.

Can I improve my voice for presentations?

Yes. Regular voice exercise can make a voice stronger, clearer and less tiring to use. The free six-week programme gives you a daily routine and a tracker to retest every two weeks.
