Zodiac stone or birthstone: what is the difference?
A birthstone follows the calendar month you were born in; a zodiac stone follows your astrological sign, which runs from roughly the 20th of one month to the 20th of the next. Birthstone lists were set by jewellers in the early twentieth century and give one gem per month, often a precious stone. Zodiac stones come from astrological tradition, vary from one source to another, and are usually affordable natural stones you can wear every day. If you were born on March 10, for example, your birthstone is aquamarine, while your sign is Pisces, with larimar, celestite, moonstone and fluorite.
Which colours go with each element?
Looking at the 48 crystals of the chart, each element has its own palette. It is a simple way to choose a stone when you hesitate, or to build a bracelet that matches your sign at a glance.
- Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius): warm reds, oranges and golds, such as carnelian, red jasper, tiger’s eye, citrine and pyrite, traditionally associated with courage and vitality. Sagittarius is the exception, with the blues of turquoise, lapis lazuli and sodalite.
- Earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn): greens and deep blacks, such as green jade, aventurine, moss agate, malachite, black onyx and smoky quartz, linked to stability and grounding.
- Air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius): light blues and soft shimmers, such as blue lace agate, amazonite, blue apatite, opal and labradorite, associated with communication and ideas.
- Water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces): milky whites, pearly sheens and sea blues, such as moonstone, freshwater pearl, mother of pearl, larimar and celestite, with the darker obsidian and tourmaline for Scorpio.
Which crystals belong to several signs?
Rose quartz is the most shared stone of the chart: it is traditionally associated with three signs, Taurus, Cancer and Libra. Eight other stones appear for two signs each: green jade, malachite, citrine, moonstone, sodalite, amazonite, lapis lazuli and labradorite. These shared stones are a good choice for a gift when you don’t know the person’s sign, or for a bracelet worn by two people with different signs.
How do I choose among the stones of my sign?
Start with the stone whose colour you like most, then add one or two others of your sign for the intentions you want to keep in mind. Each sign page has a « Design my bracelet » button that opens our builder with the stones of the sign already arranged. You can then change the order, the bead size and the wrist size, and see the price as you go.

Can I wear a crystal from another sign?
Yes: your sign is a starting point, not a rule. Many people choose a stone for the intention they want to work on, whatever their sign. To explore stones another way, try Stone of the Day, or find the stones associated with your life path number.
The links between stones and signs come from astrological tradition and vary between sources. The intentions mentioned are those traditionally associated with each stone; they are not a substitute for medical advice.
