Of all the lucky charm meanings, the four-leaf clover is the only one built entirely on luck — and the only one whose rarity has actually been counted.

The claim: “One clover in 10,000 has four leaves”
That figure is everywhere, sometimes from surprising sources: one article attributes it to a gambling website (News Letter), and another quotes one in 100,000 (Anson Record). A 2017 survey of about 5.7 million clovers in six European countries counted one four-leaf clover for every 5,076 three-leaf ones — almost twice as common as the usual claim (Wikipedia; Mental Floss).
Verdict: 🔴 Vibes only for “1 in 10,000” — the best count we found is about 1 in 5,076.
Why they grow in groups
The extra leaf comes from a recessive gene. White clover carries its chromosomes in sets of four, so the trait only shows when all four copies carry it, and temperature or soil can still hide it. Because it is genetic, four-leaf clovers cluster: if you find one, look right next to it (Mental Floss).
Beyond four
The same survey found five-leaf clovers at about 1 in 24,390 and six-leaf ones at 1 in 312,500. The record, recognised by Guinness World Records, is a clover with 63 leaflets found in Japan in 2023 (Wikipedia).
