Blue apatite is a stone I learned to respect.
That lagoon blue, almost electric, makes you want to work with it straight away. But at the bench, you had to slow down. I remember one ring: I was adjusting the setting ever so gently, watching the pressure… And then a tiny chip. Just like that. Gone.
Of course, it always happens when you're being most careful.
With a hardness of 5 on the Mohs scale and natural cleavage, it reacts quickly to pressure in the wrong place. To drill it, I used a diamond bit, at a very low speed, under a trickle of water.
A customer once told me that wearing her pendant felt like carrying a little piece of the sea with her. I've never found a better way to describe it.
Day to day: no gardening, no DIY, and take it off whenever it might get knocked.
